004 / PHILOSOPHY
Jiu Jitsu is human chess. Every position has a counter, every grip tells a story, and every roll is a conversation between two minds solving problems in real time.
At Guardian Jiu-Jitsu, we don't just teach techniques — we develop problem solvers. Our structured curriculum breaks down the art into digestible systems, so whether you're stepping onto the mats for the first time or preparing for competition, every session moves you forward with purpose.
Built in the heart of South Auckland, this academy is for our community. A clean, professional space where discipline meets camaraderie, and where the mats are open to anyone willing to learn.

COACH & CO-FOUNDER
Alex began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey in 2019 while preparing to join the New Zealand Police. Initially drawn to BJJ to develop strength, confidence, and practical self-defence skills, he quickly developed a passion for the art and lifestyle that Jiu Jitsu provides.
Throughout his journey, Alex has trained at numerous academies across New Zealand, gaining valuable experience from a variety of instructors, training environments, and coaching styles. These experiences helped shape not only his understanding of effective Jiu Jitsu but also his vision of what makes a welcoming, positive, and successful academy.
A certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Coach, Alex combines his knowledge of strength and conditioning with practical grappling instruction to help students improve both their performance and overall fitness. His coaching philosophy focuses on building strong fundamentals, developing confidence, and creating a positive learning environment where everyone can progress at their own pace.
As a competitor, Alex is the 2024 Oceania Champion and a New Zealand Grappler medalist, achievements that reflect his dedication to continuous learning and improvement within the sport.
Alex's grappling style is built around heavy pressure, strong positional control, and systematic progression towards submissions. He believes that patience, consistency, and attention to detail are the foundations of effective Jiu Jitsu, both in training and competition.
As a founder of Guardian Jiu Jitsu, Alex is committed to creating a welcoming and professional academy where students of all ages and experience levels can develop their skills, improve their fitness, and become part of a supportive community.
